About David - Entrepreneur and investor

David Gough is an entrepreneur and investor specialising in biomedical and other technology-based businesses who is credited with founding or co-founding seven companies and in helping to raise around £80million. He has enjoyed a successful and broadly based career spanning over thirty years during which time he has gained experience all sectors of the biomedical industry and across most of the major therapeutic areas. David focuses especially on early stage companies working with them from idea through to exit.
In 1997, David founded First Instar Limited a consulting firm specialising in mentoring, strategic management and finance for the life sciences and biomedical industries.
As well as CEO/General management roles with six companies, he has held board level positions in marketing, business development,finance and operations.
David has extensive board-level experience gained from 23 companies and is currently a non–executive director of CellAura Technologies, BioAstral, Sports Dynamics, Monica Healthcare and VariDose as well as being CEO of Equinox Pharma. David is also an advisor to NetScientific, The Lachesis Fund, Loughborough University Enterprises and ETCapital Limited. Since its inception David has been a panel member for the BioGerminator initiative being managed by BioCity Nottingham.
As a consultant David specialises in strategy, business planning and technology management. He has consulted for some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies.
He has extensive mentoring experience involving companies from many of the country’s leading Universities and has been a contributor to the University of Cambridge, Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning annual summer school (now rebranded as "Ignite") for the last seven years.
David is a believer in life long learning and has both a scientific and management education as well as holding the threshold competence qualification in investment management. He has recently been awarded the Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors.
